*Comment on Facebook*A tenor who can cross the lobby of a grand hotel with an elegantly athletic stride, who can talk with equal competence about the Fanciulla del West, about swimming and rugby. A tenor without a belly, without yellow scarves with purple checkered patterns; a tenor who goes out even if the sky is overcast or even raining. "If I hadn't dedicated myself to singing," he says, "I'd probably be in shorts and spiked shoes right now, running on the red track of some stadium, or, buried alive in thick leather armour, on a rugby field.

Or, in a shop in the city centre, I would be buying the latest type of fountain pen: it's my obsession. Instead I chose to sing. And I confess, without false modesty, that I think I chose well. And I can prove it: some time ago I was in Verona, I had just finished removing my make-up after having thoroughly enjoyed an abundant ration of applause, the dish that - besides jugged hare - I love the most. Sated with glory, I considered it convenient for me to avoid the extra applause that awaited me on my way out and, above all, to escape the "tour de force" represented by the granting of autographs to the "aficionados". I tried, therefore, to get away, as usual, in the English way. Surprised by a small crowd of energetic young opera lovers, I was severely reprimanded by them: "You wanted to ditch us, didn't you? But do you know that we came from Modena especially for this? Sign here..." I signed, blushing with shame, and I must admit that this violation of my modesty (or was it just laziness?) did not displease me one bit."
"The same evening - we talk a lot about me - a girl approached me at the hotel. She wanted me to sign a strange little piece of red matter, rough and impracticable even for the fiercest of my fountain pens. "But why should I sign here? I assure you there is better paper." The fact is", the girl told me at the time, "that this crumpled piece of red paper is nothing more than a petal from the rose that you smelt last year in an edition of Carmen given in Bologna...". Every tenor evidently has the "afficionados" he deserves: this matter of the rose petal I have put in a place of honour in the album of my memories'.
In 1956, Corelli will face a long transoceanic tour, Havana, Cuba, Buenos Aires, Mexico."I'd like to make this trip with the Constellation," Corelli concludes, "I'd really like to. To hear in the dim light of the machine that slightly solemn voice saying: "We are leaving the continent, we are heading towards the Atlantic... ". And so we discovered Corelli's latest passion, the four-engine plane. And that's not all. When Corelli, with his elegantly athletic step, crosses the hall again, we make the final definitive discovery: he looks like an American actor seen in Magnificent Obsession. For Corelli's young female admirers there is enough. Anyway, best wishes to them too. According to American custom, you understand, with two crossed fingers.
